The Lagos State Government has formally cautioned contractors responsible for ongoing residential developments to accelerate progress or face the termination of their agreements. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, the Commissioner for Housing, delivered this ultimatum during an evaluation of sites at the Sangotedo Housing Scheme Phase 2 and the Abraham Adesanya Extension.
Accompanied by Permanent Secretary Hafis Toriola and a team of technical experts, Akinderu-Fatai inspected the progress of these schemes. He expressed dissatisfaction with the current pace of construction, noting that the administration aims to finalize 2,000 housing units by the end of the year. While the Commissioner acknowledged that economic shifts and escalating material costs caused previous pauses, he maintained that the window for excuses has closed. He stated that the government is prepared to replace underperforming contractors to ensure project completion.
The ministry intends to hold urgent consultations with developers to resolve outstanding technical issues and push for the immediate delivery of homes. Some of these projects, including portions of the 526-unit Sangotedo development, have reportedly missed their original completion deadlines by approximately two years.
