In observance of World Drug Day, the Mountain Top Rehabilitation Centre (MTRC), a division of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, provided specialized training to 130 guidance counsellors from Lagos public secondary schools. The two-day workshop focused on substance use prevention, identification, and professional referral protocols.
Hosted at the MFM International Headquarters’ Shalom Auditorium, the initiative addressed the urgent need to mitigate drug misuse among teenagers. Experts at the event, including Dr. Olajumoke Koyejo, emphasized that classrooms are often the first place where early signs of addiction appear. Koyejo advocated for shifting the focus from punishment to supportive intervention to prevent experimental use from becoming long-term addiction.
Titilope Ogunniyi, another speaker at the event, identified schools as a primary defense line in drug prevention. The training was fully funded by Daniel Olukoya to bolster youth development. Olushola Tejuosho, the team lead, noted that the programme provides counsellors with actionable strategies to foster drug-free environments, which is essential to curbing the broader social and health risks associated with early drug exposure.
