The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) recently closed two hospitality venues due to ongoing noise pollution and environmental rule-breaking. The shuttered businesses include the Westgate Arena Club located at Apostolic Church Close in Olowora and Dave Premium and Suites on Alhaji Irorun Street in Alapere, Ketu.
According to a statement released on the agency’s official X account, the closures followed direct instructions from the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab. This action highlights the government’s push to enforce environmental standards and safeguard public health. Both locations faced multiple warnings and abatement notices for excessive noise, yet failed to modify their behavior or adhere to regulatory standards.
Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, the General Manager of LASEPA, stated that the agency remains dedicated to maintaining a safe and clean environment for all citizens. He emphasized that obeying environmental laws is a collective obligation and warned that the agency will ramp up enforcement activities against those who ignore regulations. Furthermore, Ajayi called on business owners in the entertainment sector to operate responsibly and cooperate with authorities to foster a more sustainable city.
