Hartley Backs England’s Form Ahead of T20 Semi-Final

Alex Hartley expresses high confidence in England’s cricket team as they prepare to face South Africa in the T20 World Cup semi-finals after an undefeated group stage.

Former spin bowler Alex Hartley believes the current England squad is showcasing its strongest cricket in years. Her remarks follow England’s undefeated run in Group 2, which secured their spot in Thursday’s T20 World Cup semi-final against South Africa at The Oval.

England has struggled in knockout stages since winning the World Cup in 2017, suffering five exits in that timeframe. Despite those past difficulties, Hartley remains optimistic. While she admits to feeling some nerves regarding how the team will handle pressure, she noted that the current lineup appears exceptionally balanced.

Under the guidance of coach Charlotte Edwards, the team has built significant momentum, defeating Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, the West Indies, and New Zealand. Opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge has emerged as the tournament’s top run-scorer, while Charlie Dean has provided solid cover for captain Nat Sciver-Brunt following her calf injury. Hartley highlighted the squad’s bowling depth and Wyatt-Hodge’s current form as key reasons for her confidence.

South Africa enters the match after finishing second in Group 1. Although the Proteas have defeated England in their two most recent tournament semi-final encounters, their group stage performance was inconsistent. The winner of Thursday’s match will move on to face Australia in Sunday’s final at Lord’s.
