Air Peace Brings Home 533 Nigerians Amid Ongoing South African Repatriation

Air Peace has transported 533 Nigerians home from South Africa, marking another phase in the federal government’s evacuation initiative prompted by rising xenophobic tensions.

Air Peace, the leading airline in West Africa, announced it has safely transported 533 Nigerian citizens from South Africa as part of a government-led evacuation effort. The mission utilized the airline’s Boeing 777-200 aircraft, which touched down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at 10:35 am on June 30, 2026.

Upon arrival at the Cargo and Hajj Terminal, government officials processed the passengers. This evacuation was initiated by federal authorities in response to xenophobic unrest affecting Nigerians living in South Africa. Efe Osifo-Whiskey, the airline’s spokesperson, praised the federal government for its proactive measures and highlighted the commitment of Air Peace CEO Allen Onyema.

Osifo-Whiskey noted that the operation underscores the effectiveness of partnerships between the public and private sectors in protecting citizens. He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his focus on the safety of Nigerians abroad. Additionally, he emphasized that this mission builds on the airline’s history of conducting over 16 humanitarian and rescue flights, reinforcing its status as a vital national resource during international emergencies.
