Three miners killed during armed assault in Plateau State

Unknown assailants targeted a mining site in Jos South, Plateau State, resulting in the deaths of three workers and injuries to two others.

A group of unknown attackers raided a mining location in Nyango, situated in the Gyel District of Jos South Local Government Area, Plateau State, on Tuesday. The assault, which occurred around 11:50 a.m., resulted in the death of three employees and left two others wounded after the assailants began shooting indiscriminately.

Rwang Tengwong, the National Publicity Secretary for the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, addressed the incident by highlighting the ongoing security crisis plaguing Gyel and nearby regions. The association noted that this event is part of a broader pattern of violence, with local inhabitants in Gyel and Bassa frequently reporting threats from armed individuals active near the Gyero and Rafin Buna sectors. These constant threats have led to fatalities, the displacement of families, and the cessation of local business operations.

The youth group has called upon government officials and security services to take immediate measures to identify and eliminate these criminal strongholds. They emphasized the necessity of stopping these violent cycles to ensure safety and stability for the affected populations.
