Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially sanctioned hazard allowances for government-employed journalists who were previously excluded from these benefits. This announcement was made during a meeting at the Government House in Uyo with the Akwa Ibom State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), headed by Comrade Nsibiet John.
Governor Eno stressed that these payments are necessary for staff members who regularly put in additional hours, specifically citing the Government House Press Corps. He instructed the Head of Civil Service to execute this order immediately, noting his dedication to worker welfare and state progress. During the discussion, the governor also mentioned the recent purchase of 20 CNG-powered buses and thanked the union for their continued cooperation, specifically requesting their assistance in promoting tourism initiatives.
In return, Comrade Nsibiet John thanked the governor for his ongoing backing, acknowledging the administration’s efforts to renovate the NUJ Press Centre and the inclusion of media professionals in significant government positions. The gathering included high-ranking state officials such as the Deputy Governor and the Secretary to the State Government.
