Lagos NSCDC Apprehends Multiple Suspects for Infrastructure Vandalism

The Lagos NSCDC has detained several suspects involved in cable and battery theft following intelligence-led operations and community reports across the state.

The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken several individuals into custody for alleged cable theft and other criminal offenses. During a briefing at the Alausa command headquarters on Monday, officials highlighted that these arrests resulted from community partnerships and intelligence-led operations.

Public Relations Officer SC Oluwaseun Abolurin reported that two men were captured on Saturday for destroying armoured cables in Okun Ajah. This operation was initiated after local residents and Proton Security Limited notified authorities. While two suspects are currently in custody, investigators are actively searching for two others who managed to flee the scene. Abolurin emphasized that community involvement remains a cornerstone of the agency’s strategy to protect public infrastructure.

In other developments, the command arrested a suspect involved in damaging transformer cables in the Shogunle district of Oshodi on Friday. Additionally, individuals accused of stealing eight lithium batteries in Lekki on June 15 were also apprehended. The command is currently preparing these cases for legal prosecution.

Furthermore, the NSCDC confirmed the arrest of two individuals identified as deserters from the Togolese Army, who will be handed over to relevant authorities. Abolurin urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activity as the corps maintains its focus on curbing economic sabotage throughout Lagos.
