NDC Submits Peter Obi’s Name to INEC Portal Despite Deregistration Ruling

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has uploaded Peter Obi’s name to the INEC portal after challenging a court-ordered deregistration through an appeal and a stay of execution application.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has successfully added the name of its presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) digital platform. This development follows the party’s formal filing of an appeal and a request for a stay of execution against a judicial order that sought to deregister the organization.

Senator Seriake Dickson, the National Leader of the NDC, announced this progress on Monday. He confirmed that the legal documents regarding the appeal have been delivered to the INEC chairman, urging the electoral commission to uphold legal standards. Dickson emphasized that the NDC maintains its status as a validly registered entity, highlighting its active involvement in electoral activities and primary elections overseen by the commission.

According to the former Bayelsa State governor, the party secured access to the INEC portal to register its candidates for the 2027 polls. While the names of Obi and Dickson have been processed, the party intends to submit details for the vice-presidential slot once paperwork is finalized. Dickson noted that these submissions comply with the INEC electoral calendar, with deadlines for legislative and gubernatorial candidates set for July 11 and July 17 respectively.

Addressing the party faithful, Senator Dickson urged supporters to remain composed, stating that reconciliation efforts are underway following the completion of primary elections. He assured those who did not secure nominations that they would play vital roles in future campaign committees. Ultimately, he noted that the judiciary will now decide the path forward following the recent legal filings.
