Suspect arraigned for the killing of Bishop Chinedu Okonkwo in Delta

Delta State police have charged a driver for the murder of Bishop Chinedu Okonkwo following his arrest in Anambra state.

Authorities in Delta State have officially charged a suspect in connection with the homicide of Bishop Chinedu Okonkwo. The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Yemi Oyeniyi, confirmed the development through a statement issued by spokesperson SP Bright Edafe.

The suspect was initially apprehended by Anambra State police officers in Akwuzo on May 13, 2026. He was caught while attempting to sell a Land Cruiser Jeep that belonged to the late bishop. The incident occurred shortly after the victim was killed on May 12 in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area, an act allegedly committed by his own driver.

Following an initial probe, the Anambra authorities transferred the individual to the Delta State Police Command. Investigators discovered that the suspect had a prior history of criminal activity. Before this incident, he had been employed by a company in Rivers State, from which he stole a 2016 Toyota Corolla before fleeing. The suspect is now facing formal murder charges in court.
