Man dies following suspected gang assault in Kano

A resident of Kano, Umar Halilu Babatuwa, has died following a brutal attack by a suspected gang near the Dan Agundi and Nassarawa areas.

Umar Halilu Babatuwa has passed away after being critically injured during a suspected gang-related assault near the Dan Agundi and Nassarawa districts of Kano on Sunday evening. The victim’s older brother, Aliyu Halilu, explained that Umar departed from their residence around 10:00 p.m. before the violent encounter took place.

Umar returned home shortly after with grave machete wounds and stab marks believed to have been dealt by a criminal gang. Although his family transported him to a medical facility for emergency treatment, he could not be saved. Aliyu recounted that a massive crowd of approximately 200 individuals swarmed the neighborhood, wreaking havoc on local residents.

During their desperate trip to the hospital, the family claimed they crossed paths with police officers but were reportedly denied help or escort services. This experience has left the family disillusioned with the justice system, as Aliyu expressed doubt that reporting the tragedy to the government would yield any meaningful results. The family has now called upon the Kano State authorities and security services to conduct a rigorous investigation to ensure these attacks cease. At the time of this report, the Kano State Police Command had not provided an official comment regarding the situation.
