Borno school attacked: Teacher killed and students abducted during NECO exams

Gunmen killed a teacher and kidnapped students sitting for their NECO exams during a raid on a secondary school in Borno State’s Askira/Uba area.

Armed attackers raided Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, a community in the Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, on Monday morning. The assault occurred while students were actively participating in the National Examinations Council (NECO) assessments.

During the chaos, one educator was killed and another was left with wounds. Witnesses stated that the assailants arrived in significant numbers and opened fire, creating widespread fear before forcing several students and teachers away from the school grounds.

Local inhabitants noted that the military detachment typically assigned to the area was absent during the strike, as they had reportedly departed for a patrol in Uba, situated roughly 16 kilometers away. Nahum Daso, the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, verified the report and confirmed that a number of students remain unaccounted for following the event.
