A fresh assault by suspected bandits on the outskirts of Wasagu in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State has left one individual dead and four others kidnapped. The violence, which took place on Wednesday afternoon, was reported by North-West crisis analyst Bakatsine on Thursday through his social media account.
Reports indicate that the victims were ambushed approximately one kilometer from their village while attending to their crops. The incident adds to mounting anxiety within the region, where residents argue that persistent insecurity is severely hampering agricultural productivity.
Local accounts suggest that nearly 50 people from Wasagu and surrounding areas are currently being held by criminal groups. Bakatsine emphasized that these recurring attacks jeopardize local livelihoods and the broader national food supply. He noted that agricultural output is suffering as farmers remain too fearful to work their fields. As of now, security forces have not released an official statement regarding the situation, and the status of those abducted remains unclear.
