Ahmed Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau, has called on Nigerians to rethink excessive spending on wedding ceremonies, specifically criticizing the high costs associated with aso-ebi fabrics and bridal makeup. Addressing attendees at the Crystal Muslim Organisation’s 20th anniversary in Abuja, the monarch suggested that these resources should instead be directed toward helping the impoverished.
Bamalli expressed disapproval of families spending millions of naira on beauty preparations and costly uniforms for guests, noting that such displays are problematic when many citizens struggle to secure basic daily meals. He stated that he personally refuses to fund such expenses for weddings. The Emir argued that given the current economic climate, scaling back on non-essential party expenditures is necessary for social stability. He urged parents to guide their children toward investments that foster independence and community growth rather than focusing on unnecessary, lavish celebrations.
