The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that a fire broke out early Tuesday at the Sabo Market in Ikorodu. Head of Public Affairs, Afolabi Olawale, stated the blaze began around 1:10 a.m. due to an electrical surge.
Emergency teams from the LASEMA Tiger Squad and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived quickly to contain the fire, which started in a single shop before spreading to others. Of the 32 stalls in the impacted area, 17 were destroyed, resulting in the loss of food and various goods. Fortunately, no individuals were injured or killed in the incident.
The fire was successfully prevented from spreading further thanks to the intervention of the responders. Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, emphasized the importance of electrical safety for traders, urging them to maintain proper wiring and avoid overloading circuits. He reminded the public to report emergencies via 112 or 767 to ensure immediate government assistance.
