Nigerian security forces have achieved a major victory in their ongoing fight against insurgency in the North-East region. High-ranking commanders of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have turned themselves in to the Joint Task Force of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) after facing relentless military pressure.
Along with these leaders, 76 rank-and-file fighters and several family members surrendered to the military over the past week. Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Media Information Officer for the operation, confirmed the news from Maiduguri, Borno State, on Monday.
While officials have kept the identities and specific surrender locations confidential for tactical security, Captain Goni credited the success to consistent intelligence-led operations. He stated that these missions have severely damaged the command and logistical capabilities of both Boko Haram and ISWAP.
The surrendered individuals are currently undergoing security profiling and debriefing procedures in a protected facility. The military emphasized that this influx of surrenders highlights the declining morale and combat effectiveness within the terrorist groups. Operation HADIN KAI remains focused on dismantling remaining insurgent strongholds to ensure the total restoration of peace and security in the region.
