Operating under Operation DELTA SENTINEL, the Nigerian Navy has successfully halted the distribution of unlicensed petroleum products within Rivers State. According to a statement released on Sunday in Abuja by Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director of Naval Information, the mission was executed by forces from the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) SOROH.
The team focused on the Orashi Forest region near the Okolomade Community in the Abua/Odual Local Government Area, an area situated near the border of Bayelsa State’s Ogbia region. The mission was launched following reports of illicit refined fuel being transported through local waterways.
Upon reaching the location, officers discovered a wooden vessel loaded with 36 bags of suspicious diesel. Utilizing drone reconnaissance, the naval patrol identified more fuel hidden under thick vegetation and within nearby ponds. This led to the discovery of 45 additional bags, totaling 81 bags and roughly 22,870 litres of diesel.
Folorunsho noted that the boat was seized, and all materials were managed according to established protocols to combat oil theft. The Navy remains focused on utilizing tactical intelligence to break up criminal supply chains and defend critical economic resources in the Niger Delta.
