Surajo Garba Maikatako, the Zamfara State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has characterized recent reports of the party’s deregistration as a minor legal obstacle. In a Sunday statement from Gusau, he reassured members that the organization continues to be a legally recognized and functioning political entity.
Maikatako explained that the party leadership denies claims of deregistration and remains dedicated to its democratic principles. He characterized the recent Federal High Court ruling as a brief setback rather than an end to the party’s activities. The chairman asserted that the NDC has met all necessary legal and constitutional obligations, noting that its organizational structure remains fully operational from the local polling unit level to the national office.
Furthermore, Maikatako confirmed that the party’s candidates are still recognized and that efforts to prepare for the 2027 general elections are moving forward as planned. He encouraged supporters in Zamfara to stay unified and composed, emphasizing that the situation should not deter members. He also highlighted his faith in the national leadership, specifically naming Senator Kabiru Marafa, the party’s governorship candidate in the state, as a vital part of their political mission. He concluded by urging the party faithful to hold their positions as the leadership explores all available legal remedies.
