Wales head coach Steve Tandy is set to finalize his roster for the upcoming Nations Championship early next week. This announcement follows a narrow 33-31 victory against the Barbarians at Allianz Stadium, a warm-up fixture that served as valuable preparation for upcoming matches against Fiji, Argentina, and South Africa.
The current 48-man squad will be reduced to a group of 32 to 34 players. Tandy must make these cuts after accounting for injuries to Louie Hennessey, Keiron Assiratti, and Liam Belcher. The selection process will also incorporate 12 players returning from English and French clubs who were previously unavailable due to international scheduling conflicts, including notables like Dafydd Jenkins, Tomos Williams, Nicky Smith, Rhys Carre, and Louis Rees-Zammit.
Tandy highlighted the match as a productive exercise, noting the debut of four new players and the successful return of several individuals from long-term injuries. While he expressed satisfaction with the win, the coach emphasized the need for greater consistency and improvement before facing Fiji at the Cardiff City Stadium next Saturday.
