Bournemouth initiate negotiations for Benfica’s Antonio Silva

Bournemouth are pursuing Benfica defender Antonio Silva as a replacement for Marcos Senesi, though negotiations are currently paused for European qualifying.

Bournemouth have begun discussions with Benfica regarding the transfer of Portuguese defender Antonio Silva. The Premier League club views the 22-year-old as the ideal successor to Marcos Senesi, who opted to join Tottenham Hotspur as a free agent. While Silva is highly regarded for his ability to play out from the back, Benfica has temporarily stalled negotiations to focus on their upcoming Europa League qualifying matches against St Gallen.

Since making his senior debut in 2022, Silva has established himself as a consistent starter for the Lisbon club. His experience spans top-tier competitions, including the Champions League and the Club World Cup. Despite earning 20 international caps and appearing on the rosters for the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024, he was omitted from Roberto Martinez’s squad for the most recent tournament. Should the deal proceed, he would be Bournemouth’s second major acquisition this window, following striker Alvaro Rodriguez’s move from Elche.

Under the guidance of new manager Marco Rose, Bournemouth is prioritizing a period of stability after a significant turnover of players last year. Furthermore, the club remains committed to retaining core assets including Alex Scott, Rayan, and Junior Kroupi.
