Joe Igbokwe expresses embarrassment over public criticism of Remi Tinubu

APC chieftain Joe Igbokwe has criticized Nigerians for the harsh online reception given to Remi Tinubu after she suggested that citizens engage in small-scale business ventures like selling Akara.

Joe Igbokwe, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress, has voiced his deep disappointment regarding the intense online backlash directed at First Lady Remi Tinubu. This wave of criticism followed a widely circulated video in which she encouraged Nigerians to pursue small-scale entrepreneurship, specifically suggesting that starting a business like selling fried bean cakes, known as Akara, is a manageable endeavor.

Many Nigerian youths responded negatively to these comments on social media, accusing the First Lady of being disconnected from the struggles of the unemployed. They argued that her suggestion failed to address the systemic lack of job opportunities in the country.

In response to the vitriol, Igbokwe utilized his Facebook page to condemn the public reaction. He expressed shock at the intensity of the insults directed toward the First Lady, questioning why a practical recommendation was met with such hostility. He characterized the critics as a mob, stating that their aggressive behavior left him feeling ashamed. According to Igbokwe, social media is being misused as a platform to spread negativity rather than engage in constructive dialogue.
