Tehran officials declared on Saturday that the United States undermined the peace agreement meant to halt Middle Eastern hostilities. This follows American aerial strikes on Iranian soil and subsequent Iranian counter-attacks against US assets in the Gulf. The conflict escalated after Washington blamed Tehran for targeting a commercial vessel near the Strait of Hormuz.
US Central Command stated that the American operation targeted Iranian radar and weapon storage facilities, calling it a necessary reaction to Iranian maritime aggression. Conversely, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards confirmed launching retaliatory strikes, warning that further American actions would trigger a more significant military response.
The situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains tense as Iran attempts to regulate traffic through the waterway. Despite the regional instability, global oil prices dropped due to market expectations that the crucial energy corridor would remain functional. Meanwhile, a separate peace framework involving Israel and Lebanon was finalized in Washington. While leaders from both nations view the agreement as a path toward stability, Hezbollah has voiced strong opposition to the terms.
Separately, the International Atomic Energy Agency emphasized the necessity of a robust verification process to monitor Iran’s nuclear program. Although Tehran denies seeking nuclear weapons, the IAEA insists that strict safeguards are essential to ensure compliance with the ongoing interim agreement.
