Governor Abiodun Revives OKLNG Project and Unveils Expansion Plans for Ogun Waterside

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced the revival of the Olokola LNG project and outlined a comprehensive strategy to transform the Ogun Waterside region into a major maritime and industrial hub.

Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced the revitalization of the dormant Olokola Liquefied Natural Gas (OKLNG) project, marking a pivotal moment for the Ogun Waterside area. During the inauguration of the newly reconstructed Gao-Ibiade Road on Friday, the governor highlighted his administration’s goal to turn the region into a premier maritime and industrial center.

The governor noted that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has signaled its intent to restart the multi-billion-dollar OKLNG initiative. Furthermore, he assured citizens that the Ogun Deep Sea Port project is proceeding as planned. With the discovery of premium-grade crude oil in the vicinity, the state government intends to integrate a refinery, a naval base, and a modern dockyard to solidify the region as a primary logistics hub.

To support this influx of commerce, the government is prioritizing regional connectivity. Plans are underway to begin reconstruction on the J4-Gao Road, extending toward the local government headquarters in Abigi. Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, emphasized that the Gao-Ibiade road improvements were vital for boosting local economic flow.

Local officials, including House of Representatives member Joseph Adegbesan and Assembly member Shamsideen Adekunle Lawal, praised the governor for these developmental strides. They noted that ongoing efforts in oil exploration and infrastructure will establish Ogun Waterside as a significant driver for both the state and national economy.
