The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has labeled the Federal High Court mandate requiring the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remove the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) from its register as a damaging development for the nation’s democratic processes. In a formal announcement, the PDP’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, stated that while the party is still reviewing the official court documents, it strongly rejects the potential consequences of this ruling.
The PDP argued that restricting the political landscape harms the interests of citizens who had committed financial and personal resources to run for office through the NDC. According to the party, this judicial decision threatens the survival of a multiparty system and imposes significant financial burdens on those involved. Furthermore, the PDP suggested that the current administration is actively working to dismantle opposition forces to solidify President Bola Tinubu’s position for the 2027 elections.
By allegedly hindering fair political competition, the party claims the government is ignoring core democratic values. The PDP has advised the NDC to pursue a legal appeal against the decision and requested that the federal authorities prioritize national stability by de-escalating political hostility.
