Edo State Police Apprehend Two Suspects and Recover Stolen Vehicles

Edo State police have arrested two men, Emmanuel Afolayan and Ezikiel Aguele, for the theft of vehicles, including a minibus stolen in 2024, following a routine stop-and-search operation in Benin City.

Edo State law enforcement officers have apprehended two individuals and retrieved multiple stolen vehicles. ASP Eno Ikoedem, the police spokesperson, announced the development on June 26, 2026, in Benin City.

The primary suspects, Emmanuel Afolayan and Ezikiel Aguele, were caught on June 22, 2026. Officers from the Textile Mill Road Division intercepted an ash-colored Daihatsu Hijet minibus with license plate GBZ 646 YK during a routine inspection on Siluko Road. The vehicle was identified as belonging to Dr. Timothy Etinosa, who had entered into a hire-purchase arrangement with Afolayan.

Investigations revealed that Afolayan fled with the minibus in 2024, falsified the registration papers, and sold the vehicle. Following the detention of 46-year-old Aguele, police successfully located Afolayan and recovered an additional stolen vehicle. The suspects have admitted to the crimes and will face formal charges once police inquiries are complete.
