Content creator Jarvis has responded to remarks made by singer Ycee regarding her partner, Peller. During his recent interview on the Afropolitan podcast, Ycee labeled Peller an example of an ‘Olodo uprising,’ suggesting that young Nigerians are prioritizing viral content over formal education. He argued that society is increasingly rewarding individuals for acting unintelligent or obscene to gain online attention, which he termed ‘Peller culture.’
In a rebuttal posted on social media, Jarvis criticized the narrative, attributing the growth of the Nigerian content creation industry to the government’s failure to provide adequate employment. She noted that she is a university graduate and emphasized that her career choice is a response to a lack of professional opportunities. Jarvis defended her creative work with Peller, stating that acting for an online audience does not equate to a lack of intelligence or educational background. She urged Ycee to direct his frustrations regarding the state of the country toward the government instead of attacking individual creators.
