Residents of Doral, Florida, have mobilized to organize aid shipments for Venezuela following a pair of earthquakes that struck the nation this Wednesday. As the largest Venezuelan community in the United States, with over 40 percent of the city’s population sharing this heritage, the area serves as a focal point for relief efforts.
Among those contributing supplies was Simón Peña, who donated bottled water while anxiously awaiting word regarding the status of his relatives back home. Peña expressed a deep commitment to assisting from abroad in any capacity possible.
Many in this Florida community previously left their home country to escape economic instability and personal safety concerns, a trend that began under the leadership of Hugo Chavez and continued during the tenure of President Maduro starting in 2013.
