Hamas has expressed its readiness to proceed with the next steps of a US-supported initiative designed to halt the ongoing conflict in Gaza. An anonymous high-ranking representative stated that the organization and affiliated factions have notified mediators of their commitment to initiate the second phase of the proposed framework.
However, the group insists that Israel must first formally accept the deal and honor its commitments. The official emphasized that Hamas is calling on the American government to persuade Israel to follow through with the terms, which originated from a peace plan unveiled by US President Donald Trump in September 2025.
The agreement stipulates that Hamas must surrender its weapons in exchange for a partial retreat of Israeli troops from Gaza. In contrast, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected these reports on Tuesday, asserting that his military will stay in place until Hamas is fully disarmed.
