Hospital Probe Launched After Dozens Access Files of Boy Attacked by Crocodile

Cambridge University Hospitals is investigating after up to 40 employees accessed the medical records of a toddler hospitalized following a crocodile attack.

Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) has initiated an inquiry after reports surfaced that approximately 40 staff members viewed the private medical files of a young boy who suffered severe injuries during a crocodile attack. The three-year-old is currently listed in stable condition at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge following the incident at the Johnsons of Old Hurst facility near Huntingdon.

CUH is currently assessing whether these staff members had valid professional reasons to view the sensitive data. The trust has self-reported the incident to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and stated that they will pursue disciplinary measures, including potential termination, against any employees who accessed the records without proper justification. The family of the child has been informed of the ongoing investigation.

Police were alerted to the situation at the zoo on 18 June at 13:34 BST. The child was reportedly rescued from the enclosure by zoo personnel. Following the event, a 30-year-old man from Norfolk was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and has since been released on bail.
