Trio of British Players Qualify for Wimbledon Main Draw

For the first time since 1999, three British players have successfully qualified for the Wimbledon main draw, including Ollie Tarvet, Billy Harris, and Max Basing.

Ollie Tarvet, Billy Harris, and Max Basing have secured their spots in the Wimbledon main draw. This achievement marks the first time since 1999 that three British athletes have successfully advanced through the qualifying rounds.

The 22-year-old Tarvet earned his place after beating Stefanos Sakellaridis of Greece in straight sets. Having recently graduated from the University of San Diego, he has transitioned to professional status, ensuring he will receive the full £80,000 first-round prize money, unlike last year when college regulations restricted his earnings. Tarvet shared his joy, noting that he has matured since his previous Wimbledon appearance.

Billy Harris recovered from a slow start to defeat China’s Yi Zhou, while Max Basing earned his debut main draw spot after a grueling five-set match against Swiss player Remy Bertola. Conversely, Heather Watson was unable to join them, suffering a loss to Maria Timofeeva.

With these additions, the total number of British participants in the singles brackets stands at 21. Among the international competitors, former US Open champion Bianca Andreescu also successfully qualified for the main tournament.
