Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has officially ordered the indefinite closure of its Ifetedo Campus. This decision follows the passing of Grace Osunlakin, a student in her final year studying Criminology and Security Studies.
Ademola Adesoji, the university spokesperson, released a statement on Thursday confirming the move. He noted that the administration viewed the death as a major tragedy that has shaken the entire academic community. Osunlakin reportedly passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, leading officials to intervene to ensure campus stability.
The university stated that the closure provides time for emotions to settle following the loss. Additionally, the administration plans to use this period to inspect medical resources, health staff availability, and water utility systems on the campus. These inspections are intended to rectify persistent issues and upgrade the environment for both staff and students. The university reiterated its dedication to student welfare and promised a full investigation into the matter to prevent future tragedies. Administrators have requested that parents and students remain patient while they work to normalize operations.
