Callum Kerr, a 35-year-old from Warrington, has passed away after being restrained by passengers and crew on a Jet2 flight from Cyprus to Manchester. The incident occurred early Monday when Kerr allegedly assaulted a passenger and a member of the cabin crew. Upon the flight’s arrival at Manchester Airport, Greater Manchester Police officers boarded the plane to detain him.
Authorities reported that Kerr was unresponsive once they attempted to secure him with handcuffs. Officers immediately began performing CPR before transporting him to a hospital, where he died on Tuesday. Kerr was known as a bare-knuckle fighter, and his family has described him as a devoted father and sports enthusiast.
Greater Manchester Police have referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to the contact officers had with Kerr during his arrest. Chief Superintendent Mike Allen stated that a formal investigation is ongoing to clarify the sequence of events during the flight. The police are also gathering information from witnesses who observed the initial disturbance. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is reviewing the actions of the officers involved, emphasizing that this is an independent inquiry aimed at establishing the circumstances surrounding the death.
