Specialist recovery crews located the body of a 15-year-old boy in a reservoir on Saturday night. Greater Manchester Police initiated the search after receiving reports that the teenager had encountered difficulties at Cowbury Reservoir in Stalybridge, Tameside, around 18:30 BST.
Authorities confirmed that the body was retrieved later that evening. Following formal identification, the victim’s family has been notified. Chief Inspector Helen Baxter described the event as devastating, emphasizing that there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death. She warned the public about the severe risks associated with swimming in natural water bodies like reservoirs, rivers, and canals during hot weather.
Meanwhile, emergency teams are continuing a search for another youth who went missing in the River Irwell at Clifton Country Park, Salford, shortly before 17:00 on Saturday. Officials have not released further information regarding the missing person. These incidents are among several water-related tragedies reported across the UK during the recent period of elevated temperatures.
