Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, has confirmed that the federal government intends to conduct a review of worker salaries. Speaking on Thursday in Abuja at a gathering hosted by Working People United, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives acknowledged that the N70,000 minimum wage, enacted by President Bola Tinubu in 2024, no longer reflects current economic conditions.
Gbajabiamila emphasized that the government plans to engage in this wage review process as a collaborative partner to labor unions rather than an opponent. He highlighted President Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring that Nigerian workers receive fair and appropriate compensation. The Chief of Staff advocated for continued dialogue between the government and labor organizations to foster national progress, urging stakeholders to prioritize cooperation over confrontation in addressing these economic challenges.
