Ogun NDLEA reports 306 arrests and destruction of illicit drug laboratory

The Ogun State NDLEA command has arrested 306 drug offenders and shut down a secret methamphetamine laboratory during the first five months of 2026.

Between January and May 2026, the Ogun State branch of the NDLEA apprehended 306 individuals for drug-related crimes, resulting in the prosecution of 64 suspects. State Commander Tijjani Rabe shared these figures during an event marking the 2026 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Of those detained, 272 were men and 34 were women, with 140 of these individuals receiving counseling. Seizures during this period included 2,518.16 kg of cannabis sativa, alongside quantities of methamphetamine, cocaine, tramadol, codeine, and local concoctions like skuchies. The agency also successfully dismantled a large methamphetamine laboratory recently operated by foreign nationals, prompting Rabe to warn residents to stay alert for signs of illicit drug production in their neighborhoods.

Reflecting on previous efforts, Rabe noted that in 2025, the agency arrested 771 people and seized significant quantities of narcotics. He emphasized that the command continues to prioritize community sensitization, having reached over 53,000 residents this year alone. Mrs. Bamidele Abiodun, the wife of the Ogun State Governor, called upon parents to supervise their children closely to prevent them from falling into drug abuse, pledging her ongoing support for the NDLEA’s mission.
