Internal strife deepens in Plateau PDP as Turaki group hands governorship ticket to Sunday Biggs

The Plateau State PDP faces ongoing turmoil as two rival factions issue conflicting certificates of return to different governorship candidates for the 2027 election.

The Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State is facing renewed instability. On Wednesday, the faction aligned with Tanimu Turaki awarded a Certificate of Return to Sunday Garba Biggs, naming him their governorship candidate for the 2027 race. This development follows a similar action taken just one day earlier by the rival faction loyal to Nyesom Wike, which also issued a certificate to its own chosen candidate.

Biggs received his official document during a gathering of the Turaki-backed National Working Committee. The event was attended by various party leaders, including state chairmen, board members, and stakeholders. Accepting the honor, Biggs stated that the move marks the official start of his campaign responsibilities. He emphasized that the party has entrusted him to foster peace, promote good governance, and drive sustainable development throughout the state.

While supporters praised Biggs for his potential to unite the state, local political analysts expressed deep concern. Observers warn that the PDP risks repeating the same procedural errors that resulted in the disqualification of its candidates by the Appeal Court during the 2023 election cycle.
