Police Arrest Ex-Con, Two Others For Armed Robbery, Kidnapping And Murder In Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested three suspects, including an ex-convict, for armed robbery, kidnapping, and m8rder in the state.

 

The spokesperson of the command, DSP Sunday Abutu, in a statement on Sunday, August 4, 2024, said the three suspects were arrested at different locations over the recent security breaches in the state, especially attacks on Point of Sale (PoS) agents, k!lling and kidnapping of residents.

 

According to him, one of the three suspects is Omowaye Ayodele, also known as Baba Ogbon, who was jailed for kidnapping and released from prison in May this year. He was apprehended in Akure.

 

The others are Ojo Temidayo, A.K.A Yellow and Busarí Lookman, A.K.A Abbey

 

He revealed that the three suspects confessed to have robbed and killed a middle-aged woman, Aina Adeyemi, around the Federal Polytechnic Satellite campus in the state capital on July 6, 2024, and made away with a sum of N155,000 from the deceased.

 

The PPRO added that Ayodele also participated in the kidnapping and k!lling of a former deputy vice chancellor of the Ekiti State University (EKSU), Professor Femi Olaofe.

“The Command immediately deployed officials of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) to the scene where the victim was met in a pool of blood. She was rushed to Ekiti State Teaching Hospital where she was confirmed d8ad by the doctors,” the statement read.

 

“Investigation by the Command Rapid Response Squad led to the arrest of one of the suspects, one Omowaye Ayodele, a.k.a Baba Ogbon, in Akure, Ondo State capital.

 

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having taken part in the commission of the crime and mentioned one Ojo Temidayo a.k.a Yellow and Busarí Lookman, a.k.a Abbey as accomplices.

“According to the suspect, Lookman a.k.a Abbey, went ahead to shoot and rob the victim, while he and Temidayo a.k.a Yellow, were standing beside the road very close to the scene of the crime to monitor the environment and describe the victim to Lookman, who carried out the operation.

 

“Intensified efforts by the operatives of the RRS led to the arrest of Lookman, who confessed during interrogation that he was the one who shot the deceased victim and robbed her of a cash sum of N155,000

 

“He mentioned Omowaye Ayodele a.k.a A.Y Baba Ogbon and Ojo Temidayo a.k.a Yellow, as his accomplices, including one Sunday Onyema, who is at large.

 

“According to him, the money robbed was handed over to Ayodele a.k.a A.Y Baba Ogbon and a sum of fifty thousand naira was given to him as his own share,” the PPRO added.

According to the spokesperson, Omowaye Ayodele further confessed that he is also a member of a kidnapping syndicate that recently kidnapped Late Professor Femi Olaofe at Federal Housing Area, Ado-Ekiti.

 

“Ayodele added that he was arrested in 2015 for kidnapping, imprisoned and was released recently on May 5, 2024, after completing his jail term.

 

“He also confessed that he and his gang members had attacked and robbed different Point of Sale (POS) operators at different locations in Ado-Ekiti such as Bawa Estate Area, and Better Life Area, amongst others.

 

“Ojo Temidayo a.k.a Yellow, also confessed that he is an Indian hemp seller and a fraudster.

 

“The arrested suspects are currently undergoing investigation and will be arraigned accordingly, while effort is ongoing to arrest the fleeing member of the gang who is allegedly in the custody of the arms they use for their operations,” Abutu stated.
