The Nigerian Army has issued a public warning regarding criminal groups attempting to secure funds by falsely using the upcoming Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026. Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Director of Army Public Relations, stated that these impostors are distributing forged sponsorship letters and proposals to government agencies, financial institutions, and businesses.
The military clarified that it does not solicit funds through unauthorized channels. Any requests for donations or partnerships not originating from official military platforms should be considered criminal activity. NADCEL 2026, which marks the 163rd anniversary of the Nigerian Army, is set to take place from July 1 to July 6, 2026, and all legitimate correspondence for the event will only occur through verified institutional communication channels.
Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid responding to unsolicited financial requests. The Nigerian Army, working alongside the Cyber Warfare Command and Military Police, is actively tracking those involved in these fraudulent schemes. Anyone caught impersonating the military or forging documents will face legal prosecution. Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the nearest security agency or military unit.
