Dr. Aniekan Umana, the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, has refuted claims made by the police that an arrested vigilante guard carrying a toy AK-47 was under his employment. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, through spokesperson DSP Timfon John, previously stated that a suspect named Wisdom Umana was detained while in possession of an imitation firearm and had alleged he was working as an escort for the commissioner.
In a direct response, the commissioner clarified that he does not employ any vigilante personnel. He emphasized that all security staff assigned to his office are official members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) deployed through proper state channels. Dr. Umana urged the police to investigate the matter thoroughly and publicly dismissed the suspect’s claims as entirely false.
