Five-Match Suspension Handed to Madibo for Causing Kone’s Leg Fracture

Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo is suspended for five matches after a challenge left Canada’s Ismael Kone with a broken leg during a World Cup fixture.

Assim Madibo, a 29-year-old midfielder for Qatar, has received a five-game suspension following a tackle that left Canadian player Ismael Kone with a broken leg. The incident occurred during a 6-0 loss for Qatar last Thursday. Fifa’s disciplinary board ruled that the challenge constituted serious foul play, though the decision remains open to appeal.

Kone, a 24-year-old former Watford player currently with Sassuolo, suffered breaks to both the tibia and fibula in his left leg. He underwent surgery in Vancouver and is now ruled out for the remainder of the World Cup. Madibo visited the hospital to offer his apologies after understanding the extent of the damage.

As the tournament progresses, Canada prepares for a match against Switzerland with hopes of topping their group. Meanwhile, Qatar faces a must-win situation against Bosnia-Herzegovina to maintain any possibility of advancing from the group stage.
