The Kebbi State administration has issued a formal alert regarding the arrival of a terrorist organization identified as the Sai Mallam sect. These individuals have recently established a significant presence in the Argungu Local Government Area.
Retired Colonel Danladi Ribah, the Security Adviser to the state, highlighted these developments during a security meeting held at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi. The discussion included the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Suleiman Mohammed Abdul, who oversees the North-West region. Ribah explained that while the group was originally observed in limited numbers in Zuru, their footprint has grown substantially in Argungu.
The sect was reportedly first identified within Sokoto State, where local security forces managed to mitigate their influence. Ribah emphasized that the Kebbi government is actively collaborating with law enforcement to neutralize this threat. Governor Nasir Idris remains committed to providing the essential financial and material resources required to support security forces in their ongoing struggle against criminal groups, including the Lakurawa and Mamudawa factions.
According to security briefings, external incursions are a major concern. Lakurawa militants reportedly cross into Kebbi from Sokoto and the Republic of Niger, while Mamudawa members frequently enter via Kwara and Niger states. Additionally, bandit operations in Kebbi are often staged from neighboring Zamfara State. Ribah reiterated the government’s vow to protect the residents and their assets from these dangers. During the same forum, the District Head of Ambursa, Alhaji Isa Haruna Rasheed, advocated for larger budgetary allocations to the police to better equip officers and support their overall welfare.
