Three Individuals, Including Nigerien National, Receive Death Sentences for Terrorism in Sokoto

A Sokoto High Court has sentenced three men, including a foreign national, to death by hanging for terrorism and arms proliferation offenses.

A Sokoto State High Court has handed down death sentences by hanging to three men found guilty of terrorism and illegal weapons possession. The defendants, identified as Nigerien citizen Yusuf Muhammad, also known as Sallau, along with Jabbi Alhaji Yalle and Kabiru Muhammad, were taken into custody on June 13, 2025. Agents from the Department of State Services (DSS) Counter Terrorism Unit captured the men for their alleged involvement in international arms trafficking and terror-related operations.

Justice Muhammad Nuraddeen Bello, presiding over case SS/45c/2026 at High Court No. 23, delivered the final verdict. Beyond the death sentence, the judge mandated that all funds seized from the group be forfeited to the Federal Government. During the ruling, Justice Bello highlighted that this legal outcome represents another successful effort by the DSS to dismantle organized criminal and terrorist networks operating across Nigeria’s borders.
