Authorities in Kano State have officially closed a film house situated in the Dorayi neighborhood of Gwale Local Government Area due to breaches of local planning ordinances. The Kano Geographic Information System (KANGIS) enforced this closure after receiving multiple reports from neighborhood residents and community representatives regarding the establishment’s operations.
Dalhatu Aliyu Sani, the Director-General of KANGIS, announced the development on Wednesday during the agency’s ongoing enforcement campaign dubbed Operation Show Your Document. According to Sani, the operators could not produce necessary legal paperwork, including land titles or building permits. Furthermore, Sani stated that the facility is permanently compromised because it operates within a residential zone, which directly contradicts local zoning laws.
Beyond regulatory issues, officials expressed alarm regarding the facility’s social impact. During the inspection, agents reportedly discovered males and females sharing sleeping quarters within the building. KANGIS has committed to maintaining its oversight, noting that similar enforcement actions were executed against various commercial properties, including plazas located near Kofar Famfo.
