Desmond Elliott, the lawmaker for Surulere Constituency 1 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, has voiced his disapproval of politicians changing political parties. He argues that frequent party switching is unlikely to bring about the fundamental improvements required for Nigeria.
During an appearance on The Morayo Show, Elliott discussed his perspective on leadership and the state of the nation. He emphasized that he sees little value in moving between political groups in search of better outcomes. Reflecting on his tenure in Surulere, he noted that his focus has been on delivering tangible improvements in healthcare and electricity access.
Elliott stated that he operates with integrity, avoiding corruption while working to revitalize his constituency. He highlighted how the area has undergone significant development over the past decade. The former Nollywood actor further remarked that public service should be viewed as a temporary commitment rather than a platform for self-importance, urging his peers to lead with humility.
Questioning the motivation behind switching allegiances, Elliott asked what fundamental differences truly exist between prominent figures such as Asiwaju, Obi, or Atiku. He suggested that moving between camps does not address the core challenges facing the country.
