Jeremy Doku Returns to Belgian National Team Post-Paternity Leave

Manchester City’s Jeremy Doku has returned to the Belgian national team camp in Seattle following the birth of his child, just in time for a crucial World Cup match against New Zealand.

Manchester City player Jeremy Doku has arrived back at the Belgium national team base in Seattle. The winger had briefly departed the camp to attend the birth of his newborn child, Praise, in London.

Official confirmation came via a social media post from the Belgian Football Federation. Doku had previously sat out a scoreless match against Iran due to a respiratory infection. After receiving medical clearance, he successfully traveled to see his family and has now rejoined his teammates under the supervision of medical personnel.

Team doctor Brahim Hacene confirmed that the family is in good health and that Doku’s return trip was handled without issue. The timing is critical, as Belgium prepares for a high-stakes Group G match against New Zealand this Saturday. The team is currently in need of a victory to keep their 2026 FIFA World Cup knockout stage aspirations alive.

The player’s brief time away caused controversy when French commentator France Pierron criticized his decision to leave the team. The backlash was swift, leading the publication L’Equipe to formally apologize for the remarks. Belgium now looks to utilize Doku’s offensive capabilities to secure their first win of the tournament.
