The Lagos State Government successfully prosecuted 13 people for improperly discarding refuse. A Magistrate Court located in Bolade, Oshodi, handed down a three-month jail term to every defendant.
Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, announced the news on Tuesday through his official X account. The defendants faced charges for breaching environmental sanitation regulations through unauthorized waste dumping.
Each of the 13 individuals admitted their guilt to the accusations presented in court. Consequently, the magistrate issued a three-month prison sentence for each person. Those convicted include Jamiu Abdulkareem, Nwosu Martin, Abduljamiu Wasiu, Habeeb Muhammed, Kolawole Elijah, Anum Musa, Adeniyi Jamiu, Taiwo Olaniyi, Ali Muhammed, Paul Yaya, Damilare Adebowale, Ojo Fatai, and Abah Musa.
Authorities stated that these convictions demonstrate the ongoing enforcement of environmental laws and a pledge to foster a cleaner, healthier Lagos. This action aligns with the state’s strict policy against reckless waste management practices.
