Thomas Tuchel Defends England Offensive Strategy Following Draw With Ghana

England manager Thomas Tuchel rejects suggestions of an over-dependence on Harry Kane following a goalless stalemate against Ghana in the 2026 World Cup.

England manager Thomas Tuchel has dismissed claims that his squad is too reliant on striker Harry Kane after their 0-0 draw against Ghana in Boston. This result served as a reality check following England’s impressive 4-2 win against Croatia in their tournament opener.

During the match, England controlled much of the possession but struggled to find the net. Late chances from Bukayo Saka, Nico O’Reilly, and Kane were unsuccessful. When asked if the team depends too much on the Bayern Munich star, Tuchel argued that such reliance on top-tier talent is standard in international football.

Tuchel pointed to the diversity of goalscorers in the previous game, where Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford also netted, as evidence against the over-reliance theory. He explained that while Kane thrives on responsibility, his limited impact against Ghana was due to structural issues in the build-up play rather than individual failure. The coach insisted that while the team counts on Kane as their primary forward, they maintain a collective approach to scoring.
