The Kebbi State Government has committed to pursuing justice following a violent confrontation between farmers and herders in Gulma, Argungu Local Government Area, which resulted in eight fatalities. Deputy Governor Umar Abubakar Tafida headed a state delegation to express condolences to the community on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris.
Addressing the gathering at the Emir of Argungu’s palace, Tafida emphasized that the authorities would hold those responsible for the violence accountable. He requested that citizens remain composed while law enforcement agencies conduct their investigations.
The hostilities reportedly began on Monday after a disagreement regarding livestock damaging crops. This dispute turned lethal when a herder allegedly stabbed a farmer. The subsequent cycle of reprisal attacks led to eight deaths, including the farmer and seven herders. Security teams successfully rescued five other individuals from the area.
Emir Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera lamented the tragedy, labeling it a somber chapter for the emirate. He echoed calls for peace and urged all factions to avoid further agitation. A joint security task force has been stationed in the region to stabilize the situation, while the state government confirms that investigations are active to ensure legal consequences for the perpetrators.
