Lagos State police authorities have transported debris collected from an explosion site in the Oke Mushin area to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for specialized forensic testing. The incident occurred at 22 Wey Street around 6 a.m. when the owner of a Toyota Sienna, bearing license plate AAA 11FX, attempted to start the vehicle after it had been parked overnight.
The blast prompted an immediate deployment of bomb disposal units and senior law enforcement officers, who secured the perimeter to conduct a thorough inquiry. A police source stated that while the situation was controlled, the owner of the vehicle sustained minor injuries. Investigators are currently reviewing the remains of a small container found in a bag near the vehicle to determine its contents.
Lagos State Police Commissioner Tijani Fatai confirmed the occurrence of the blast, noting that Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) operatives are actively examining the recovered materials. He indicated that a comprehensive report will be released once the analysis is completed.
Local witnesses, including resident Ogundiji and trader Ebuka, described the sound of the blast as alarming, causing many to flee their homes in panic. The explosion caused physical damage to nearby structures, including a metal door, and scattered debris across the scene. Mr. Okubo, chairman of the Structural Materials Association, played a role in alerting authorities, who subsequently retrieved the necessary evidence for further investigation.
