Accord Party Calls for Osun Police Commissioner’s Dismissal Over Rising Violence

Citing a lack of accountability for political violence and the killing of its members, the Accord party has demanded the removal of Osun State Police Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan.

The Accord party has formally requested the immediate transfer of Osun State Police Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan. The party claims that Gotan has failed to address ongoing violence and targeted killings of its members leading up to the August 15, 2026, gubernatorial election.

According to National Publicity Secretary Joseph Omorogbe, the party has lost faith in the commissioner’s ability to stop political thugs who operate openly in cities like Osogbo and Ede. The party asserts that despite reporting these incidents to both the police and the Department of State Services, no suspects have been apprehended or charged.

Accord specifically blamed the All Progressives Congress (APC) for orchestrating attacks on its secretariat, campaign offices, and billboards. A tragic example cited by the party involves the June 21, 2026, shooting of 14-year-old Ezekiel Olapade in Ilobu, who was killed when thugs fired weapons indiscriminately.

The party has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the Inspector General of Police, and other security heads to intervene and restore peace. Accord emphasizes that elections should not be won through violence and urges all political actors to focus on issues-based campaigning rather than intimidation.

Despite the current climate of unrest, the party maintains its support for Governor Ademola Adeleke, stating that their commitment to the state’s governance remains firm against efforts to disrupt the democratic process.
